In one word, YES!
Massage & Chiropractic
Help This Mom’s Fibromyalgia!
Since my twenties, I’ve been getting massages to relax my muscles. The massages always had an added bonus of helping my mind to deal with the chronic everyday pain I had which was my parting gift of being diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) and Fibromyalgia (Fibro). My massages never really took away all the pain, but once I started doing both massage and chiropractic together, strategically working on various sections of my body with both Melanie Boyd of Wellness, Naturally! and Dr. Heidi Bencsik of Willow Wellness & Chiropractic Care of Doylestown, things started to feel a little better.
Mel and Dr.H work as a team to customize a strategic plan of action for each of their clients. My plan currently includes: an hour a week of deep tissue massage (some Fibro patients can’t handle that much, so your plan would be fine tuned to your needs) and three chiropractic adjustments a week (I get spine, neck and wrist adjustments). The spine and neck adjustments relieve pressure from herniated discs that happened during a car accident (future blog post to appear under “Mama’s Healing Journal” about letting go of my anger and forgiving the other driver that ran the red light). These disc herniation’s cause me significant pain as well as numbness because they are pressing on some nerves causing my hands and toes to go numb to the point of feeling burning sensations and having to stop whatever it is I’m in the middle of so I can try and relieve the pin-and-needles felling. This of course, as many of you can relate to, turns into super frustration and the wish of being normal.
I’m doing so well with Mel & Dr.H that I canceled my appointment with a hand specialist where we would talk about the option of surgery. Don’t know how carpal tunnel happened, just kidding…maybe one too many blog posts..ha! All kidding aside, shout out to my Mama’s Helpers, the Moms that help me maintain this valuable resource for parents in PA & NJ, I feel defeated on most days. It’s like my body is slowly giving up on me, but thanks to Mel & Dr.H, I feel like I’m taking back some of my body. So, I’ve rescheduled my surgery appointment till the end of March to give myself one month with these two ladies to let them work their magic and see what they can do for me. Currently, I feel less numbness than I did when I first arrived in their offices just a few short weeks ago. I’m hopeful that I can cancel that other appointment too.
Dr.H & Mel have such a calm demeanor that I immediately took to them and knew my body & mind needed them. Not to mention that first time my daughter (J) walked in Dr. H’s doorway, she stood there for a minute, then walked over to her, wrapped her arms around her legs giving her a hug and a kiss. J knew from the moment she laid eyes on Dr.H, that she was a caring person. I had mentioned to her in the car that this doctor would be helping mommy to feel better.
ps…check out how cool this kitchen is in their office building…so sweet. Sometimes if my appointment has time in between, I chill in here getting work done.
