Volunteer for Build Week, April 20-25th, Freedom Playground in Havertown PA

Wow! What an amazing idea that has taken so many people to volunteer for it to all come together. Build week is coming up!

Freedom Playground will allow typically developing children and children who have a wide range of special needs to play, grow and develop along side one another. Our playground will be fully wheelchair accessible and will offer an extensive variety of activities that promote social interaction, gross motor skills, fine motor skills, sensory integration and most importantly, fun!

Volunteer for Build Week
Thank you helping to build Freedom Playground! Know that we greatly appreciate your time, and we can assure you that you’ll find this opportunity one of the most rewarding experiences of your life.

There is a way for everyone to participate, regardless of your skill level. We need people with specific talents such as carpenters, but we also need people who’ve never swung a hammer in their life. We need specific tools like circular saws, but we also need people to carry the lumber once it’s cut. We need artists to design and paint murals, but we also need people to cook the breakfasts and lunches. There will be many different types of specific and generic jobs available.

Follow the link below to register for a shift that fits your schedule. Free lunch and dinner will be served. And don’t worry about hiring a babysitter, we’ll provide free babysitting for children 9 years and younger. Your children aged 10-13 are welcome to work on the site within arm’s reach of a guardian, and ages 14-17 can help build but may not use power tools.

We Need Your Talent
Anyone interested in providing childcare must have 2 valid clearances from the Pennsylvania State Police – a Criminal Records Check and a Child Abuse History Clearance. If you do not already have your clearances, the process is easy and painless.

In order to obtain your clearances please follow the links below:
Criminal Record Check: This clearance maybe returned instantly and you can print it out right on your home printer.

Child Abuse History Clearance: Follow the directions on the PA Department of Public Welfare’s website. Please check the Volunteer Box on the form. This clearance must be sent away and might take several weeks to receive. You do NOT need the FBI clearance.

Please bring copies of both clearances with you on your appointed day and time to the Childcare Area.

We Need Your Tools
Open your garage and help supply us with the tools to build Freedom Playground; bring your saws, drills, hammers and wheelbarrows. All tools will be inventoried and returned back to you in as good or better condition as we received them, or we will replace them. That is a promise! Indicate your tool donation when you register. Our Tool Coordinator Chris Wilson will contact you to facilitate your donation.

We Need Your Friends
Please help us to recruit additional volunteers! We won’t be able to complete our playground without help from all your family, friends, and neighbors. Please direct them to our website to register.

Thank you for your support of Freedom Playground. Together we are giving ALL children an extraordinary place to reach their full potential!

James - the inspiration behind The Tour Duchenne

Please watch this video for my friend Sharyn. Every time I watch a video she makes about her beautiful son I cry. You will cry too…but you need to see this video. We can help make a difference! Even if you can’t donate, just telling your friends and family about this video and James will help build awareness of Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. Thanks for watching. Feel free to comment. I’m sure she would love to see your supporting thoughts. Sharyn….you are strong woman! ((hugs))

Gracie’s Gift Project - Donate Your Baby Blankets!

What is the Gracie’s Gift Project?
The Gracie’s Gift Project was started by the Sonneborn Family, in memory of Grace Sonneborn. Born in March of 2003, Gracie was found to have the rare condition known as OsteoGenesis Imperfecta (Brittle Bone
Syndrome). Though Gracie lived only for one bittersweet day, she brought our family incredible joy.

During the difficult time leading up to Gracie’s birth, tremendous kindness was extended to our family by friends, colleagues, and medical health professionals. This support took many forms, and often came from unexpected places. In a particularly touching gesture, nurses who attended Gracie’s birth gently wrapped her in a beautifully crocheted receiving blanket and bonnet that had been donated to the hospital. Today, that blanket is a tangible reminder of the darling baby girl who will live forever in our hearts.

In 2005, our family hoped to return some of the kindness extended to us by sharing a small gift with families in need. We invited a few friends to join us in honoring Gracie’s memory by donating baby blankets to families served by the maternal infant unit of Temple University Hospital. Word about our ‘project’ spread; on Gracie’s birthday, our family delivered 40 gift-wrapped blankets to Temple University Hospital. We were told by the nursing staff that these blankets would be the only gift that many of these infants would receive.

Why Temple University Hospital?
Temple University Hospital was chosen to be the recipient of the blankets because of the hospital’s mission to provide quality health care to underserved families. When asked if the gift of baby blankets had made an impact, Lorna Braunsar of the maternal infant unit replied:
“ … the maternity department at Temple University Hospital was truly touched by an angel. Holly Sonneborn, who had lost her child, wanted to do something special for others in memory of her child. Holly and her family members collected and brought beautifully packaged blankets and layettes to be given to the mothers here in our maternity department. As we distributed these packages, there was not a dry eye to be had. Many of our mothers were in need of these items. They were incredibly touched, and greatly appreciated this gesture of memory and love. Sometimes a simple thank you does not convey our true feelings, but we are very grateful and thankful that Holly came into our lives, and made a special impact forever.”

This Year’s Goal….
In its first year, the Gracie’s Gift Project donated 40 blankets to infants at Temple University Hospital. Last year, over 500 blankets were collected and distributed. Our goal for 2010 is to collect and donate 500 blankets, which will be delivered to the hospital’s maternal infant unit on March 6th – the sixth anniversary of Gracie’s birth.

To Donate a Blanket…
Blankets will be collected from February 1st to March 5th. To donate a blanket, or for more information about the Gracie’s Gift Project, please contact:

Meals for Haiti with Arbonne's On the Go Protein Shakes

Meals for Haiti with Arbonne’s On the Go Protein Shakes
Meals for Haiti

OUR ARBONNE TEAM IS PULLING TOGETHER A “MEALS FOR HAITI” PROGRAM BY SENDING ARBONNE PROTEIN SHAKES TO EARTHQUAKE VICTIMS AND WORKERS IN HAITI

My ENVP has been in contact with Wilbert Merzilus who is a missionary in Haiti. You can read about his organization at www.livinghopemission.org. He lives just North of Port au Prince. He told her that they are beginning to be flooded with people from Port au Prince who can obviously not live in the current conditions.

Both the people in Haiti and the relief workers are in dire need of food. Arbonne’s Go Easy! Protein shakes are a great source of nutrition that does not need water added or be refrigerated. It is essentially a meal by itself as it supplies 20g of protein and is packed with vitamins and minerals.

The Ready to Drink Protein Shakes (12 pack) will be sold at our cost. We are forfeiting our commission!!!! This is a GREAT way to help directly and know exactly where your donation is going. It will be shipped directly to Living hope mission and distributed by Mr. Merzilus in Port au Prince, Haiti.

My goal is to ship 100 boxes. That is 1,200 meals!! I will ship the boxes directly to Mr. Merzilus. One box retails for $33. I am charging $25 a box which is my wholesale cost (includes tax and shipping).

Please let me know how many cases your family would like to send to Haiti by simply responding by email or calling be directly. To get the order out quickly, Credit/Debit is preferred.

We would like to get these meals down there as soon as possible.

Thank you in advance for making an impact!!! Please forward this along to your friends, so they can join our efforts.
