SMITH the Kids’ Play Place in the Park is a FREE, non-profit playground and playhouse located in Philadelphia, PA. In existence since 1899, SMITH is one-of-a-kind. SMITH features a Victorian mansion playhouse (never a residence, the mansion was built solely as a playhouse) for kids 5 and under and a state-of-the-art, six-acre playground for kids 10 and under.

As a children’s play facility, SMITH represents a return to a simpler form of play: one where the imagination reigns supreme. So bring your kids to SMITH. Nestled in the hills of East Fairmount Park in Philadelphia, SMITH will truly bring your child… the magic of play.

Programs
Story Time
SMITH hosts Storytime in the Playhouse each Wednesday from September-April at 10:30 a.m. for children 5 and under. Each session is led by SMITH staff and volunteers and features stories and songs. Registration is required for groups to attend Story Time.

Crafts in the Playhouse
SMITH hosts Crafts in the Playhouse on the third Friday of the month from September-April from 10:30 AM – 12:00 PM. Each month will feature special crafts for children 5 and under. Registration is required for groups to take part in crafts.

Pre-School
For over 40 years, SMITH has been home to a unique co-operative pre-school program. The pre-school meets Tuesdays and Thursdays, October-April and is open to children ages 3-4. Registration for the 2009-2010 school year is closed.

Play and Learn
Play and Learn is an educational playgroup for parents, caregivers and infants 12 months and under (non-walkers) and is led by members of the Psychoanalytic Center of Philadelphia. The group meets in eight week sessions. Registration is required and a small fee is charged. Play and Learn is on break for the summer, check back in September.

FAMILY DAY AT SMITH
Tuesdays are reserved just for family fun. Come and enjoy the Playground on this “quiet” day.

SMITH Parties & Field Trips
KIDS’ BIRTHDAY PARTIES
Having a birthday party at SMITH is an experience your child will never forget. Parties at SMITH take place on Saturdays and Sundays ONLY from either 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM or 1:00 to 3:00 PM. You will have 30 minutes before and after your party for set-up and clean up. The cost to hold a birthday party at SMITH is $200.

Since party slots fill up quickly, we suggest you call at least two months in advance of the actual date you have in mind. To make reservations please call 215-765-4325.

SMITH has two spaces available for parties.

•The Party Room is available year round and can accommodate up to 10 children. All children in attendance including siblings, cousins, etc. must be 5 or under.
•The Side Porch is available April-October and can accommodate up to 15 children. All children in attendance including siblings, cousins, etc. must be 10 or under
YOU MUST SPEAK WITH A SMITH STAFF MEMBER FOR YOUR PARTY TO GO ON THE CALENDAR.
