This week Mama’s wondering about places to buy kids clothing at great prices. With back to school sales beginning now (yikes!) it seems to be the time to start finding good deals on school and play clothing for the fall. What are your favorite places to shop for your kids? Any hidden gems that you are willing to share?
I have a lot of luck shopping the sales at Kohl’s and the Gap Outlet for my little guy. I scored big a few months ago at the Gap Outlet in Limerick and managed to pick up some great hoodies and long sleeved tees there on clearance. I also find some great deals on Lands End’s online store, especially their overstocks. I like Lands End clothing for my son, as they wear well and last! I’m able to give them as hand me downs to relatives. Old Navy often has great deals too, if you watch the sale ads. Their jeans fit my son great and I found a great sale on them last year online. I find it helps to sign up for email alerts from each website to keep track of upcoming sales.
There will be another round of consignment sales soon too, which are also great places to stock up on all things related to kids. I’ve had great luck at the Cozy Tots sale in Bryn Athyn, although the clothing for girls seems to always be much more plentiful than for boys! I also am lucky to have a friend whose son is 18 months older than my son, so we get great hand-me-downs from him!
Please share your favorite spots to get great deals on kids clothing!

KEEPING HANDS CLEAN IS KEY IN MAINTAINING GOOD HEALTH AS KIDS HEAD BACK TO SCHOOL
Wet Ones® Antibacterial Hand Wipes and Renowned Pediatrician Dr. William Sears Offer Moms Tips for Healthy School Year
SHELTON, Conn. – As kids head back to school, good health starts with clean hands. With the new school season approaching, many moms are looking for an extra hand to help keep their kids healthy and reduce sick days. In fact, elementary school students who do not use proper hand hygiene will miss more school than those that do employ good hand-washing habits, according to an American Journal of Infection Control study. [1]
“Scientists estimate that 80 percent of all infectious diseases are transmitted through hands, so it’s important for children to learn to keep their hands clean all year long,” said renowned pediatrician and author of more than 40 books on childcare, William Sears, M.D. “Soap and water are not always accessible throughout the school day, so an effective way to keep hands clean and germ-free is to use an antibacterial wipe like Wet Ones® hand wipes, which parents can pack in lunchboxes and book bags.”
In addition to teaching children about clean hands, parents can follow other simple tips to start the new school year off on the right foot. Dr. Sears offers the following five tips to keep students healthy, from brain to body:
1. Begin the Day with a Brainy Breakfast: Children who start the day with a “brainy breakfast” that includes protein, fiber-filled carbs, Omega-3 fats and minerals like calcium and iron, do better in school and have fewer sick days.
2. Keep Hands Clean: The first and easiest line of defense against the spread of germs is washing hands often, but when soap and water are not available, antibacterial wipes like Wet Ones® hand wipes are an effective alternative. Wet Ones® antibacterial wipes are proven to be just as effective as gel hand sanitizer in killing 99.99 percent of germs but they also clean away dirt and messes and won’t dry out skin like alcohol-based hand sanitizers. Keep them around the house, in lunchboxes and in pockets.
3. Feed Your Child Immune-Boosting Foods: The best way to boost the immune system is to increase the intake of fruits, vegetables, seafood and yogurt.
4. Keep Little Noses and Sinuses Clear: Germs often settle first in the nose and sinuses, so it’s important to keep kids’ nasal passages clear by either flushing them out with a saltwater solution or loosening secretions with a facial steamer or vaporizer.
5. Keep Your Children Active: Movement mobilizes the immune system. Kids who sit too much – especially indoors – get sick more often. Movement also mellows the mood, as stress depresses the immune system.

Wet Ones® provided this mama a sample canister to try out. The “fresh scent” wipes smell great and are refreshing when cleaning up after a messy toddler. The canister fits into a standard car cup, making them convenient to have on hand during travels with the kids. They are especially handy on cleaning up after a morning at the playground or a coffee spill in the car. Even with sensitive skin, the antibacterial formula does not sting when used. I keep a canister in the car all the time and in our beach bag as well. The canister is easy to use, even for a toddler.
To help parents and kids with keeping clean as the school year begins, Wet Ones is offering one lucky reader a chance to win a canister of Wet Ones, a travel pack and a box of individually wrapped wipes. It’s that time again, the part of the summer that kids dread and parents rejoice: Back to School! It’s always exciting to start a new school year and having some personalized school supplies adds to the excitement. I recently learned that Snapfish by HP is offering some fun Back to School choices for parents and students, whether they are heading to school for the first time or off to college.
My little guy is heading off to preschool for the first time this year, so while the traditional “back-to-school” supplies do not apply there are a few things that I found on Snapfish’s back to school page that I can use to enhance his experience. I ordered a personalized notepad with his name and photo on it to use for sending quick notes to his teachers or for him to “write” a little note or drawing to a new friend. I had fun choosing a design to use of the many offered and found a cute one with the alphabet on the bottom. Adding his photo and a short message was easy. I picked out one of my favorite photos of him from my Snapfish library of photos.
For older kids, I noticed some great collage photo gifts, such as mousepads and personalized notebooks. I would have loved to have a notebook customized with a photo of all of my friends when I was in school, or even one of my pets’ photo on it. With Snapfish gifts, it is easy to make something fun for every student in your family. You can even make a personalized wall clock with your favorite photo on it. That may help keeping track of new schedules a bit more fun.
For parents, Snapfish makes it easy to create a photo book filled with childhood or summer memories. I’ve made a few books myself of family vacations and birthday celebrations. Snapfish provides fun layouts and designs and has options for different types of covers. My family enjoys looking through our books of memories and I’ve received many compliments as to how well done the photo books are produced.
If you have never used Snapfish before you will be surprised at how easy it is to upload photos and order prints and gifts. I find it extremely convenient to shop late at night when everyone else in the house is asleep. I’ve order many gifts on Snapfish since becoming a parent. Coffee or tea mugs with a grandbaby photo on them have been enjoyed by proud grandparents. At the holidays I make personalized greeting cards for each grandparent with my family photos and personalized messages. Snapfish makes shopping online for photo gifts fun.
I placed an order for some prints from our summer fun and in less than 24 hours I received an email notice informing me that my order had been printed and shipped; it was received within a week. While it takes longer than walking into a local photo center, the savings is significant and the convenience seals the deal for me. As a parent I don’t have much time to upload photos at the store and place an order. Using Snapfish from home keeps ordering my digital prints easy.
One lucky reader will have an opportunity to win a “back to school” $50 gift card credit to Snapfish to try out their great products. To enter, please go to Snapfish’s website and pick out one photo gift item you might like to purchase and leave a comment on this post. This contest will end on September 7th, 2010 at 11:59pm. The winner will be announced by September 9th.
For additional entries complete any or all of the following and leave a separate comment for each extra entry.
