Spit That Out! A book giveaway

Have you ever stayed up all night scraping lead paint off the walls (and then realized you’ve actually made the problem worse)? Googled every toy in the house to make sure they didn’t contain high levels of cadmium or lead? Searched every product in the cabinet for the mere mention of a paraben? As a new mother, Paige Wolf has been committed to living an eco-friendly and healthy lifestyle. But with the flood of constantly changing information, it’s become an increasingly difficult task. In addition to the age-old daunting task of raising happy, healthy babies, mothers are constantly bombarded with new and contradictory research concerning environmental toxins, long-term product effects, and the far-reaching impact of every product we purchase and decision we make. Spit That Out! answers the questions posed by mothers on the verge of a “green mom nervous breakdown” and turns to experts to present facts, debunk myths, and help parents stay on a reasonable and responsible course without losing their minds. Whether they are cloth-diapering, holistic mamas or moms who still can’t give up their designer duds, all modern mothers can relate to the desperation of wanting to do the best for their children – and feeling hopelessly overwhelmed in the process. Spit That Out! feeds an audience of mothers hungry for commiseration, direction, and relief.

Paige Wolf, the author of Spit That Out: the Overly Informed Parent’s Guide to Raising Children in the Age of Environmental Guilt, has graciously offered one of Mama’s Little Helper’s readers to win a copy of her book.  On her blog , Paige provides up to date info about being an environmentally friendly parent in the city of brotherly love, Philadelphia.  She provides many green mom resources as well as her personal struggles to make the best green choices for raising her son.  Her recent post about play tunnels got me thinking about the play tunnel/tent we own and what materials it contains.  Her book also has a few tips from Mama herself, Chrissy Glen!

For your chance to win a copy of Spit That Out! please leave a comment below this post and share a “green” parenting tip or a question you have about being a greener parent.  (I can’t guarantee an answer, but maybe another reader will know an answer to share too!)  Or, if you can’t think of a tip or question, comment about why you want to win!  This giveaway will end on March 17th at 11:00pm EST.  One winner will be selected from the comments using Random.org and will be contacted by email.  The winner will have 48 hours to respond to the email, otherwise a new winner will be selected.  Prize delivery is the responsibility of the Paige Wolf.  Good luck!

Social Kiddos playdate cards for moms {Giveaway!}

Congrats to Lynda P!  You are the winner of the Social Kiddos Play Date Cards!  Look out for an email from Mama.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Kiddo Tags is a company I stumbled upon last fall when I was searching for a label for my son’s belongings for preschool. I had done an extensive internet search and was really happy to find a mom-run business in the US.  Since my initial kiddos tag order I have found lots of uses for these great little labels and all the ones on cups still stick even after multiple runs through the dishwasher. Recently Gabby, the owner of Kiddo Tags, contacted me to see if I would be interested in reviewing a new product for her, Social Kiddos, as a preview to her new product line launch coming soon.
Social Kiddos are parent-child “business” cards. They feature you and your child’s essential contact info on one side in the pattern of your choice along with a lined writing surface on the flip side for a quick note. The designs for these cards are fantastic, with such variety! I chose a cute blue/green argyle pattern with a little car, since my son is into cars at the moment. I included my home and cell numbers and my email address on my cards, but customization is up to you.  They arrive in a neat little package complete with a carrying case, mini sharpie marker for notes, blank Social Kiddo cards, and your personalization on a sticker label.  Assembly is easy and included are a few extra stickers that can be used in other ways, such as in your child’s backpack.
I have found that I often meet moms when we are out a playground or the Little Treehouse and I wished I had a way to exchange info quickly so that we could set up a playdate for the kids or even the mommies.  Having these Social Kiddos on hand will make it a bit easier to do this.
Gabby mentioned why she created Social Kiddos:
A must have for a Social Mommy’s purse and or Social Kiddo’s back pack. These were created when my daughter wanted to give her friends her phone number to schedule play dates outside of school. Also, I like to use them when I meet someone while out and about, at the playground, Daycare etc. I found myself using them on the tennis court as a personal fun info card.  I also use them on birthday presents (replacing the to/from tag) or to insert into a card (thank you’s, birthdays, baby showers etc) cards.
As a special Giveaway for one lucky Mama’s Little Helper reader, Kiddo Tags will be giving away one Social Kiddo pack, which includes:
16 pcs Social Kiddo Card Kit.
24 = stickers (8 additional to place on gifts, cards etc)
16 = card stock 14pt (Social Kiddo space for notes)
1 = Kiddo Mini Sharpie
Carrying case in your choice of 4 colors
Card Size: 2″x 3.5″
Sticker slightly smaller for easy application.
Customization options:
Childs Name:
Parent’s name:
Mama’s Review of Tassimo
Mama was so excited to get the Tassimo in the mail last week. My brother was over and he was just as excited as I was. We are huge coffee drinkers. The setup was so easy we didn’t even need the directions. I kept nagging my brother to please read the directions so he didn’t ruin the new coffee maker. He kept insisting that he didn’t need them and I admit now (lol :P ), he was right it was a very simple setup. This machine is small and not an eye sore for the kitchen counter. The coffee was the perfect temperature.  I haven’t made the latte yet, but the creamer is even a T Disc that actually gets steamed to make the latte. That’s so cool. I have another machine similar to this one and that wasn’t an option. You had to steam the cream yourself some other way.
Do you have a Superhero Kid? Gift idea and giveaway!
Superhero capes and masks
Local mom, Sherry Aikens, is the genius behind BabyPop Designs.  She has been dressing little (and big) superheroes in capes, masks, gloves, and tees for the past six years.  Her kids capes have been hits on the playgrounds, backyards and birthday parties all over.  She graduated from Philadelphia University with a degree in Fashion Design and worked in the apparel industry for 16 years before deciding to stay home with her kids.  BabyPop Designs was born when she was looking for a creative outlet that would allow her to use her design skills, be a stay at home mom, and tap into items her kids could enjoy.
Does your kid want to have a superhero costume for playtime or dress up?  Do you have a few kids you need to purchase inexpensive yet well made gifts for the holidays?  Check out BabyPop Designs’ cool kids capes and masks.  Capes can be ordered in an array of colors with different shields and then personalized with the kid’s initial.  If you have a princess instead of a superhero, you can also order beautiful princess capes sets, complete with crowns.
I have ordered several capes and masks from BabyPop Designs over the years and have loved the response I’ve received from the recipients.  These superhero costumes make perfect gifts for kids ages two and older.  Starting at just $16, the BabyPop Super Cape is 22” long from center back neck to bottom and is made of premium satin and eco-friendly felt letters.  The felt that is used for the shields and letters is made from recycled soda bottles!  For safety, the neck closure uses Velcro, so the cape is easy to put on and take off.
Adult superhero costumes can also be ordered, for your favorite Super Mom or Dad, Aunt, Uncle, Grandparent, or teacher.  Wouldn’t that be a fun teacher gift?!
If ordering for this holiday season, please check the website for details of order deadlines to insure that you receive your capes in time.  Currently the last day for Christmas orders is December 10.  Orders placed after that will be shipped in January.
Sherry of BabyPop Designs has generously offered one Mama’s Little Helper reader a personalized superhero cape and mask.  The winner will be able to choose the cape and mask color, the shield design and the letter.  To enter this giveaway, please visit BabyPop Designs website and leave a comment of what shield design you like best.  For additional entries, follow BabyPop on Twitter and “like” BabyPop on Facebook.  Please leave a comment for each action.  This contest will end on December 9, 2010 at 11:00pm EST.  The winner will be contacted via email. The delivery of this prize is the responsibility of BabyPop Designs.  Good Luck!
The Hartz Pet Gift Guide is out! Coupon and Giveaway!
Game, Set, Match dog toy by Hartz. Photo courtesy of Hartz.
Congratulations to Tabitha!  You are the winner!  Look out for an email!
Every pet owner I’ve ever known made sure that their pet had a holiday gift to “open” for Christmas or Hanukkah.  Growing up we even had stockings for each of our cats filled with cat nip mice and balls with bells in them.  I used to think it was just our family that bought presents for our pets, but as I grew up and met more pet owners, I realized how common it was.
The good folks at Hartz also recognize that pet owners want to buy presents for their beloved pets and have created the Ultimate Pet Gift Guide this holiday season.  It has all sorts of fun toys on it, including the Hartz® Game, Set, Match®.  This fun set of colorful tennis balls was made exclusively for Hartz out of a custom rubber formula designed for chewing.  At retail they sell for approximately $1.69, a great value!  I had a chance to check out this toy and found it to be very colorful and well made.  My friendly Katie dog agreed and just loved chasing the ball around and chewing it a bit.
I also had a chance to let Katie play with the Hartz® Floppy Fantasy™ toy, a plush elongated cat toy with a squeaker ball inside.  The body of the toy is dual stitched at the pressure points for added strength.  Katie wasn’t quite sure what to make of it, but it was amusing!
Other ideas on the guide include the Hartz Marty Mouse with catnip for your favorite cat.  This overstuffed plush mouse with jingling bell will sure to be a hit, especially the catnip filler!  There is also a 5-pack of mini mice filled with catnip for lots of feline fun!
For a $1.00 off coupon good towards a Hartz pet toy, visit this website and click on the “get coupon” box to print.
Please check out the full list of Hartz toys on the Ultimate Pet Gift Guide.  As a special for Mama’s Little Helper’s readers’ pets, Hartz has kindly offered a giveaway prize of the Hartz® Game, Set, Match® and the Hartz® Floppy Fantasy™ toys for dogs.  To enter this giveaway, please visit the Hartz Ultimate Pet Gift Guide website and leave a comment here about which toy you would like to have for your pet.  This giveaway will end on December 9, 2010 at 11:00pm, EST.  The winner will be chosen by Random.org and contacted via email.  Hartz is responsible for the delivery of the prize.  Good luck!
Disclosure:  Hartz kindly provided the two dog toys for me to use and keep for the purposes of this review and giveaway.  The opinions expressed are my own.
