Question of the Week: Where do you get the best deals on kids clothing?

This week Mama’s wondering about places to buy kids clothing at great prices.  With back to school sales beginning now (yikes!) it seems to be the time to start finding good deals on school and play clothing for the fall.  What are your favorite places to shop for your kids?  Any hidden gems that you are willing to share?

I have a lot of luck shopping the sales at Kohl’s and the Gap Outlet for my little guy.  I scored big a few months ago at the Gap Outlet in Limerick and managed to pick  up some great hoodies and long sleeved tees there on clearance.  I also find some great deals on Lands End’s online store, especially their overstocks.  I like Lands End clothing for my son, as they wear well and last!  I’m able to give them as hand me downs to relatives.  Old Navy often has great deals too, if you watch the sale ads.  Their jeans fit my son great and I found a great sale on them last year online.  I find it helps to sign up for email alerts from each website to keep track of upcoming sales.

There will be another round of consignment sales soon too, which are also great places to stock up on all things related to kids.  I’ve had great luck at the Cozy Tots sale in Bryn Athyn, although the clothing for girls seems to always be much more plentiful than for boys!  I also am lucky to have a friend whose son is 18 months older than my son, so we get great hand-me-downs from him!

Please share your favorite spots to get great deals on kids clothing!

Peddler’s Village Grand Illumination Celebration

Light up your holidays Nov 19-21 with a magical holiday light display and Merchants Open House Weekend. Pictured here is a Peddler’s Village shop all dressed up for the holidays! (photo courtesy of Peddler’s Village)

Peddler’s Village, in Lahaska, Pennsylvania, is a year-round destination in beautiful Bucks County.  They will be starting the holiday season with a festive event on November 19, 2010 from 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm, by turning on the Grand Illumination Celebration.  Santa Claus will be turning on the lights himself at 6:15pm, which will create a magical, dazzling wonderland of one million lights illuminating the Village.  That evening, there will be festive music and complimentary refreshments to enjoy.  Find hot cider heated in old fashioned kettles along with marshmallows toasted over an open fire.  Children and adults will surely enjoy the strolling musicians playing holiday tunes all evening.  What a wonderful way to begin the holiday season with your family and loved ones.  It will be a memorable event, especially for the little ones.  Santa Claus will also be available in Giggleberry Fair on weekends waiting for children’s holiday wish lists and letters.

The 30th Annual Gingerbread House Competition and Display in the Village Gazebo will feature more than 100 incredible creations of gingerbread and confection. Admission is free and the display will be open through January 1, 2011 during regular shopping hours.   The beauty in this Gingerbread House competition is that there are categories for all levels of skills, so next to the expertly designed and decorated house will be a just as beautiful creation by a young child.  It is amazing what these bakery artists can create with some cookie dough, icing, and candies!

Visitors are also invited to preview the merchants’ distinctive choices for holiday gift giving to kick off the Merchants Open House weekend, November 19-21.  Village shopkeepers will welcome visitors with refreshments and something for everyone on your gift list. The Village’s extended holiday shopping hours are November 19 through December 30, Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday.

Visiting Peddler’s Village during the holiday season is a tradition for many families.  Seeing it in the evening or nighttime is just magical as the trees just glow beautifully with so many lights.  With free parking and no admission fees, it makes for a budget friendly outing with children who will enjoy being able to run around the lit pathways and see the waterwheel outlined in lights.  There are six restaurants at Peddler’s Village for dining, and of there are several specialty food shops, including the Town Crier Bakery where the cupcakes and other baked goods will delight all.

Peddler’s Village is located at Routes 202 and Street Road in Lahaska, Bucks County.  For more information, please visit www.peddlersvillage.com or call 215-794-4000.
